Obituary

Valerie Ruth Hale

January 20, 1956 – May 2, 2021

Valerie R. Hale, 65, of Sahuarita, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the home of her sister Gail L. Carey.  She was born on January 20, 1956 to Charles W. Butts and Helen (Ulin) Butts in Utica, New York.

Valerie was a devoted and loving wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother to her son, daughter and two grandsons.  She possessed a passion for life.  She would often sing, joke, and play while handling her daily duties around the house.  Many of her children's friends thought of her as a second mom.

She loved to travel and would accompany her sister and brother-in -law on their trips. She enjoyed visiting her family and friends.

Valerie was an avid crafter.  She worked on stitchery, quilting, yard ornaments, and household decorations constantly.  She lived with her sister the last three years of her life and her nephew warned his mom not to leave anything around or Valerie would turn it into some kind of craft.

Valerie held many positions over the years from an aid in a nursing home to lunch lady at school. When she was in high school in Poland, New York, she would help the local farmer gather hay in the summer months. Her most significant and lengthy position was a waitress for the TTT Truck Stop in Tucson, Arizona.

She was active in the sewing group at Desert Hills Lutheran Church and attended church often prior to her illness and the recent pandemic.

Surviving her are Valerie's son, Benjamin C. Dygert, daughter-in-law, Tracey Weber, their daughter Sierra Flowers and Tracey's mother Sharon Boyles; Valerie's daughter Lee Anne D Beal, her son-in-law, Mike Guthrie, and grandsons, Gabriel H. Beal and Daryll M. Beal.  She is also survived by her sister Gail L. Carey, nephews, Christian C. Carey (Christy A. Brenner), and Garrick W. Carey (Talia M. Martin), and great-nephews Cameron J. Carey, Colin A. Carey and Charlie M. Carey. Also, her kitty Tigress.  Predeceased are her parents, Charles and Helen Butts, her husband, William E. Hale, and her brother-in-law, James E. Carey.
