Sona Lu Davidson Siegel, 63, passed away February 19,2026, due to complications in surgery at Banner Hospital, Tucson, AZ.  Sona served in the U.S. Army, for 8 years early in life, and ended her career at the VA hospital, Tucson AZ.  Between these jobs she was a nurse and worked in various areas, until she received her Master's degree in nursing, and became a nursing educator.   She worked at Illinois Central College, and OSF College of nursing, both in Central Illinois.

Sona was a life long learner, last working on her PhD in nursing.  She was a voracious reader, and read both for pleasure and for education.  In her family, she was the go-to person for anything medical.  She inspired a niece and a nephew to pursue nursing, and also inspired teaching, her daughter is an Art educator, and one son who is a Flight Instructor at a pilot school. Education was very important to her.

Sona was baptised at New Castle Bible Church in Mackinaw, IL in the early 2000s.  While in Illinois she served in the homeless ministry outreach through Northwoods Church.  She enjoyed outreach programs, but she was especially passionate about helping the homeless, Women's rights, veterans, and medical mission work, and obviously nursing.

Sona moved to Green Valley, AZ in the summer of 2019, to work at the Tucson, VA hospital.  She was in charge of a med/ surg floor that later became the COVID wing during the pandemic.  Sona managed a staff of nurses who cared for COVID patients.  She loved serving at the VA, and even when she encountered difficult patients, she would refer back to them and find a reason to laugh.  Many difficult life lessons and hard patients gave her reason to reflect and choose laughter over anger.

Sona is survived by her beloved children, Brandon (Devin) Allonby, Zachery (Jaime) Winn, Rebecca (Mitchell) Campbell, Riley (Abigail) Siegel, and many grandchildren, and one great grandchild.  She is also survived by parents, Sharon Bergren, Ronald (Mary K) Davidson, siblings, Teresa (Greg) Delinski, Kelly (Deb) Couri, Shane Couri, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of life was held on February 24, in Green Valley Arizona.  In Illinois a Celebration of Life will take place on March 28th in Central Illinois, details forthcoming.
