Russell Stuart White of Green Valley, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 9, 2021, after a brief illness, at Santa Cruz Valley Regional Hospital in Green Valley. He was 62.

Russ was a dedicated Christian. He played guitar and sang with several worship teams at churches wherever he lived, most recently at Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley. Russ had a beautiful voice, and he used his voice to worship Jesus.

Russ regularly reached out in ministry to the homeless, in practical ways, as well as by preaching, teaching and leading worship. He had a heart for the lost, the homeless and the unsaved, and he gave people hope.

On Jan. 6 this year, Russ would have celebrated 33 years of sobriety. He once wrote that on "Jan. 6, 1989, on the traditional Feast of Epiphany, I surrendered to live, and embarked on the Journey of Recovery ... I have a humble heart of gratitude that God saw fit to take the broken shards of my life and form a new creation in Him, He's far from finished with me yet!"

Russ was a patriot and a military veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps.

Russ worked as a prosthetics representative at the VA medical center in Tucson, after he and Karen moved to Green Valley in May of 2012. Prior to that, Russ had worked at the VA in Portland, where he was a purchasing agent, a timekeeper and part of the security patrol formed after 9/11. Before working for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Russ worked for Lockheed in Europe and General Dynamics in Saudi Arabia.

In addition to his wife, Russ is survived by four sisters, Carol Hawkins of Apache Junction (husband, Robert); Sarah "Sally" Crino of Davenport, Iowa; Catherine Hicks of Walla Walla, Wash.; and Nancy Luce of Portland (husband, Michael); stepson, Craig Seever, and daughter-in-law, Jennie Seever of Gresham, Oregon; three grandchildren, Alyssa and David Riehl, Sarah Seever and Jason Seever; and two great-grandchildren, Oaklyn and Elijah Riehl; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Russ was greatly loved by many people.

Russ will be interred Feb. 11, at the Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Marana. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley, 1393 W. Mission Twin Buttes Road, Green Valley. His memorial service may also be viewed on the church's Facebook page.
