Our beloved son and brother, Roy Gary Cozad, Jr., died at home in Green Valley, AZ, on January 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kay (McNeil) Cozad.

Born in New Orleans, LA, Roy grew up in Liberty, MO, and spent the bulk of his career in the Kansas City, MO, area.  After attending Liberty High School and William Jewell College (where he studied History and Elementary Education), he taught elementary school for several years before embarking on a career as a marketing executive with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. After retirement, Roy and Mary Kay relocated to Green Valley, Ariz., where they enjoyed their extensive network of friends.

Roy was an active volunteer in the Green Valley community, whether it was spending time rescuing at-risk cacti and succulents with the Tucson Cactus Society or his long-standing involvement with his homeowner's association.

In his leisure time, Roy was a passionate golfer. He was understandably proud of having played the top public golf courses in every state in America — lacking only Hawaii in his tally of the 50 States.  He also was a committed student of American history and a serious collector of historic firearms.

Roy was well known for his whimsical and lighthearted approach to fandom, whether he was rooting for his beloved Kansas City Chiefs football team or furthering his virtually encyclopedic knowledge of offbeat B-grade and C-grade movies.

As a brother, from childhood to adulthood, Roy was always available to help with life's challenges and conflicts. As a son, he was exceptionally attentive and supportive. He will be deeply missed by all.

Roy is survived by his father, Dr. Roy Cozad and his wife Sheryl, as well as his two brothers, Scott (Shavonne Danner) and Kanon Cozad (Rachael Blackburn Cozad). He is also survived by several stepsiblings: Jeff Emery, Shelly Sawatzky, Kelly Emery-Hauber, and Blair Unger.

Roy requested that any gifts in his honor be made to the Patronato San Xavier Endowment Fund, a permanently restricted fund ensuring the Mission San Xavier del Bac is properly cared for in perpetuity.
