Rose Marie "Dinny" Sites (nee Mooney) passed away at her home on May 17 in Green Valley, AZ at the age of 93.

Dinny was the eldest child born to the late Andrew and Rose Mooney, on April 5, 1927 in Atlantic City, NJ. She graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea High School in 1945, and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the School of Nursing at Atlantic City Hospital in 1948.

After receiving her nursing degree, Dinny joined the U.S. Navy as an Ensign in 1949, where she completed additional training at the School of Aviation Medicine at Gunter AFB, AL. She later served at the US Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, with Air Transport Squadron Five out of Moffett Field in CA; and at the US Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA.

Despite a proclivity to air sickness, while at Moffett she was frequently airborne, helping to transport wounded servicemen across the Pacific back States-side for treatment. One mission took her and a pilot on a small aircraft to Alaska to bring back a single wounded seaman. She completed her tour of duty with the Navy as an LTJG in 1952.

It was while at Portsmouth -- after working 30 straight nights on the OB ward -- that Dinny met First Lieutenant Edward "Bud" Sites, on a blind date. While she initially considered him a little too "syrupy-sweet," he eventually won her affections and became the love of her life. They married on Jan. 26, 1952 in Atlantic City, NJ and lived together in Bud's hometown, Geneva, OH, for 35 years before retiring and relocating to Green Valley.

In Ohio, Dinny began a storied career at Geneva Memorial Hospital. She completed advanced studies in cardiac care while there and served in virtually every department, from OB, ER and ICU to Cardiac Care and Surgery.  During that time, she not only helped to deliver many of the children in Geneva (including triplets once), but also helped treat many residents after accidents or illnesses. Many Genevans over the years commented on how comforted they were to arrive at the hospital to find Dinny greeting them, as they knew their loved one would be in good hands.

Growing up at the beach in Atlantic City, there was no place Dinny was more at home in than the water. She was an avid lap swimmer at pools during cold Ohio winters and in the pre-dawn hours at various GVR and La Posada pools in Green Valley. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and embroiderer, who made many of her own clothes, her daughters' clothes, and her daughters' dolls' clothes. She was also a fierce competitor in any game she played: golf at Ashtabula Country Club in OH and Desert Hills Golf Club in AZ, tennis, bridge, even square dancing. And she delighted all with her playful boasts of being "The South Jersey Champ" when victorious.

Dinny was a passionate volunteer throughout her life. She applied her nursing skills at Red Cross Blood Donor Centers and Friends in Deed. She was a founding member of an active Literary Society and Study Club. A lifelong Catholic, Dinny was active in fundraising events from spaghetti dinners, fish fries and fairs at Assumption Church in OH and she was a Stevens Minister, Lay Eucharistic Minister and member of the floral committee at Our Lady of Green Valley Catholic Church.

She was proud of her Irish heritage and one of her most cherished memories was of a trip to Ireland to meet her first cousin and her cousin's family for the first time.

But it was music that brought Dinny the most joy throughout her life. Whether it was live, televised or from her large CD collection, she was just enchanted by it. . . particularly choral music or vocalists. Besides her husband Bud, no one touched her heart more than Andrea Bocelli!

Dinny is survived by daughter Kathleen Dempsey (Ken Dempsey) of Ashley Falls, MA; daughter Shawn of Los Angeles; son Tim of Charleston, SC; and son Kevin (Anita Sites) of Hong Kong; grandchildren Kelly, Ilya and Brendan Dempsey and Cami Paul; and great-granddaughter Gabriella Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Bud" Sites of Green Valley; her parents, Andrew and Rose Mooney of Atlantic City, NJ; and her brothers, Andrew J. Mooney of  Ocean View,  NJ and Joseph D. Mooney of Chanhassen , MN.

A memorial service will be held in Green Valley at a future date.
