Obituary

Ronald Louis Graney died February 28, 2024, at the age of 77, in Tucson, Arizona after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born on November 4, 1946, in Stitzer, Wisconsin, the son of Kenneth and Eileen Graney. As a young boy growing up on a farm, he was no stranger to hard work. This strong work ethic followed him through his life. He graduated from Lancaster High School in Lancaster, WI in 1964. He later attended Madison Area Technical School in the welding program.

Ron enlisted in the Air Force in 1966, specialized in aviation repair during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1970. Ron married his first wife, the late Janice Leuer Graney, and had four children. Ron spent many years working in various fabrication, design, and sales jobs, highlighting his many skills. He especially enjoyed working at Matco Tools, selling tools, telling stories, and meeting people. Ron also delivered fifth wheel campers across the country, perhaps foretelling his retirement years.

Ron married his wife Susan Prough on February 28, 2004. After their retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the country in their fifth wheel camper and met many wonderful people along the way. Sue and Ron retired in Green Valley, Arizona in 2019 and kept very active with many friends and neighbors.

Ron was a jack of all trades and regularly repaired items around the house, performed car maintenance, and manned the grill like a pro. Ron especially enjoyed woodworking, taking after his father's treasured pastime. Weekends often consisted of cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Ron crafted many special pieces, including coaster gifts for his daughter Kara's wedding, a beautiful coffee table finished during his last few months of life.

Ron was a stoic man who kept his cards and his feeling close. But through cancer's ups and downs, he found his voice. Ron openly shared I love you's with those he loved, and his family takes comfort in knowing his feelings were spoken. Ron will be remembered for his kind, generous heart, compassionate spirit, and pride for his children and grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife, Susan Graney. He is also survived by three of his children with Janice: Karen McKinney of Lake Geneva, WI, Kevin (Anne) Graney of Brookfield, WI, Kara (Adam) Blasing of Crystal, MN, and his six grandchildren: Samuel McKinney, William McKinney, Kathryn McKinney, Maximilian Graney, Owen Graney, and Evalyn Graney. Ron is also survived by his sister, Linda Graney of Asheville, NC, and sister, Kathleen (Kim) Manner of Madison, WI.

Ron is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Katrina Graney, mother, Eileen Graney and father,
Kenneth Graney.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from Noon to 3 PM at the home of Terry and Sandy Squire in Green Valley, Arizona, for his many friends. A Celebration of Life is also planned on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 1 PM to 4 PM for family and friends at the Four Winds Farm in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, where Ron and Sue lived prior to moving to Arizona.
