Peter Higginson
Wendell
Feb 3, 1942 — Dec 22, 2024
Peter H. Wendell died peacefully at Canyon Valley Memory Care in Green Valley, AZ on December 22, 2024 at the age of 82. Peter was the beloved husband of Karen Wendell; loving father of Doug (Kim) Wendell, Jen Wendell (Lars Kongshem), Jeff (Frankie) Goss and Bethany Goss; dear grandfather of Maddy, Chloe and Nora Wendell and Nico and Olive Kongshem; and dear brother of Natalie Thomas, Chris Arms and David Arms.
Peter was born in Cleveland, OH and raised in Lake Forest, IL. He attended Westminster School in Simsbury, CT. He retained a great number of close friends from his time on Williams Hill. Peter received a bachelor's degree from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Upon his graduation, he returned to Chicago to pursue a career in the securities industry at The Chicago Corporation where he would eventually lead the retail brokerage division and serve as a member of the executive management committee. After the sale of The Chicago Corporation to ABN AMRO Bank, Peter orchestrated the sale of the retail brokerage division to Dain Rauscher Wessels, where he would become head of retail brokerage operations for the Chicago area until his retirement.
After his retirement, Peter and Karen moved west to pursue their love of mountain and desert life full time. They established homes in Dubois, WY and Tubac, AZ. Peter spent summers during his youth working on the Diamond G ranch and it was his lifelong dream to make a home in Dubois someday. Peter was an active member of the Dubois community serving as a director of the Dubois Fire Board and a director of the National Bighorn Sheep Center. Peter was a true outdoorsman and would make annual pilgrimages with his closest friends to fish for "muskies" on Lake Nipissing, and to hunt Canadian geese in North Dakota and wild game in Wyoming. Peter was an avid golfer at both Antelope Hills Golf Course in Dubois and Tubac Golf Club in Tubac where he would win several individual and team events. Peter loved to host family and friends for extended visits that included ATV tours, canoe trips, fly fishing, target shooting, golf, outdoor grilling and fire pits.
He cherished the quality time spent with the close friends they established in the communities of Dubois and Tubac.
