Peter N. DeTomi, formerly of Norwich, New York., but more recently of Green Valley, Arizona passed away early on Monday, March 2, 2015 in the Santa Rita Nursing Home in Green Valley with family by his side. Peter was born on February 28, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, to the son of Achille and Pasqua (Fratantero) DeTomi. Peter attended St. John's University, College of Pharmacy and graduated in the Class of 1953. Peter served in the United States Army Medical Corp during the Korean War, then attended New York University earning a master's degree in Business Administration. Peter married his sweetheart, Hedy Engel, on December 26, 1960 at the St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Peter began his pharmaceutical career in Manhattan and also enjoyed teaching as an Associate Professor at St. John's University. In 1978 Peter and Hedy moved to Norwich after becoming the assistant Director of Marketing at Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals. Peter later was promoted to Director of Market Information until his retirement with Procter & Gamble. Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Italian Club, the Newcomers Club, the Newman Club and was often seen at St. Paul's Church as a Lector. In his retirement, Peter and Hedy moved to Green Valley where he spent his days golfing on the course that was in the back yard. He also enjoyed playing tennis, painting landscapes and still life, and of course, traveling to visit his children and grandchildren as often as possible. Besides his loving wife of 54 years, Peter is survived by his daughter Peggy McGrath and her husband Robert of Los Altos, California; son Stephen of Charleston, South Carolina; son John and his wife Maggie of Norwich, New York; and his five grandchildren Michael, Colin and Jack of California and Katarina and Ryan of Norwich. He is also survived by his sister Linda and nephew John of Virginia. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Green Valley Mortuary in Green Valley, Arizona. A Christian mass will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Green Valley on Wednesday, March 25th at 11am.
