Norman Gene Harris, age 83, of Green Valley, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on August 20, 2018.

Norm was born January 3, 1935 in Duncombe, IA to Guy and Emma Harris. He lived at the Quakerdale Boys Home in New Providence, IA from age 11 until his graduation from high school in 1952, when he entered the US Navy. He served on destroyers during both the Korean and Viet Nam wars. The Navy was his career until he retired as a Navy Chief in 1973.

Norm married Judy Anderson April 11, 1959. They had 3 children.

Norm and Judy lived in San Diego, CA until the family was transferred to Naples, Italy from 1970-1973. After retirement from the Navy he received his BA degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA.  He lived and worked in Des Moines, IA until retiring full time to Green Valley, AZ in 2003.

In Green Valley he worked as a handyman, volunteered with Desert Hills II Association, was president of the Iowa Club and sang in the Desert Hills Lutheran Church Celebration Choir.

Norm is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; his sons Kurt Harris (Vicki) of Santa Barbara, CA and Kyle Harris (Lauri) of Wilmette, IL; and his daughter Kelly Jo Frey (Jere) of Sierra Vista; his granddaughters Grace and Lilly Harris of Wilmette; and a brother John Sundblad of Des Moines, IA. Preceding him in death was his sister Shirley Klass, a brother Stan Harris and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at Desert Hills Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at Desert Hills Lutheran or Alzheimer's Association.
