Neina Maud
Canter Beach
Feb 3, 1939 — May 13, 2025
Neina Maud Canter Beach, 86, passed away on May 13, 2025, at Haven Health Green Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Washington D.C. on February 3, 1939, to Harry Vernon Canter and Evelyn Juanita Beall Canter. Neina was the middle child of five siblings and named in honor of her two grandmothers, a tribute that reflected the deep family connections she carried throughout her life. Neina was raised in Hyattsville, MD, and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended public schools in Hyattsville and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1957. After graduating, Neina worked as a bookkeeper at the accounting firm of R.H. Violet in Hyattsville, and later joined Copenhaver Engravers in Washington, D.C., where she was honored to have handled several call orders from then-First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
Neina found her true professional calling at Perpetual Building and Loan in Washington, D.C., where she served as the IRA/Keogh Director of New Accounts for many years, transferring in that position to branch offices in Silver Spring and Hyattsville, MD. In 1978, she met the love of her life, Ralph, at a social dance event sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. They were married on June 4, 1984 and made their home in Damascus, MD, where they lived until retiring and relocating to Green Valley, AZ in 1993. Theirs was a loving and devoted partnership, marked by shared adventures visiting family, enjoying cruises, and exploring destinations across Europe. Neina treasured the comfort and peace of home and tending to her beautiful gardens. She had a special fondness for 1950s music, especially Johnny Mathis. Neina had a deep love for cats and generously supported The Animal League of Green Valley, where she and Ralph also adopted their two cherished companions, Ramses and Churchill.
Neina is preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband Ralph Owen Beach, and son Kevin Eugene Guthrow. She is survived by her daughter Dawn Brooks Winger of Edgewater, MD; three grandchildren: Joshua (Lindsay) Winger; Michael Winger; and Marideth (Josiah) Canzanella; seven great grandchildren; stepson Mark Beach (Mary) of Ijamsville, MD; stepdaughters Julie Marcellino (Michael) and Kelly Beach (Larry Veihmeyer); siblings Joane Davies of Lakewood, CO; Nancy Meushaw (Stanley) of Williamsburg VA; Vernon Canter (Jean) of Sunset, LA; and Robin Miller (Jim) of Williamsburg, VA; special friend and caregiver, Stephanie Parra; special friend Janie Perkins from Green Valley Sheriff's Auxiliary Telecare; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A private interment service for Neina will be held Friday, May 23, at Green Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Animal League of Green Valley (talgv.org). Condolences may be shared online at: www.greenvalleymortuary.net
