Myron Allen "Mike" Humphrey was a man of deep faith, quiet strength, sharp wit, and unwavering love for his family. He passed away at Banner Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, on July 10, 2026, just five days before his 87th birthday.

Mike was born on July 15, 1939, in Winfield, Iowa, to Allen and Jeanette Humphrey. He grew up on the family farm, where he and his younger brother, Gary, spent their childhood getting into just enough mischief to create stories that would be told for years to come. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1957 and, immediately after graduation, answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy.

Mike proudly served six years as an aviation technician in the U.S. Navy. His service took him to San Diego and Monterey, California; Norman, Oklahoma; Memphis, Tennessee; and Brunswick, Georgia. His years in the Navy shaped his strong work ethic, sense of duty, and lifelong love of country. It was a chapter of his life that remained a source of great pride, and one he spoke of often. Honoring his wishes, he will be laid to rest with military honors.

Following his military service, Mike began his career with AT&T, where he worked for 30 years as a fiber optics engineer. After retiring and settling in Arizona, he started Marney's Hammer, a handyman business that quickly became known throughout Green Valley for exceptional craftsmanship, honesty, and reliability. Mike believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. His customers became his friends, and many remained both for decades. Marney's Hammer was active for 31 years.

Faith was the foundation of Mike's life. He was a founding member of Grace Church of Sahuarita and faithfully served as an usher for many years. His relationship with the Lord was not something he simply professed, but something he lived every day through humility, and thoughtfulness.

His commitment to Scripture was just as steady. Mike devoted time each day to reading and studying God's Word and read the Bible from cover to cover five times during his lifetime. His favorite passage was John 1:1 (NAS): "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Mike also believed in serving his community. He was among the first commissioners following the incorporation of the Town of Sahuarita, served as secretary-treasurer of the Optimist Club of Green Valley, and was active in 4-H in Boone, Iowa, and Baldwin City, Kansas.

Although he was a man of few words, those who knew him best knew there was always a joke coming. Mike had a remarkable sense of humor and a quick, brilliant mind. He found joy in making people laugh. His jokes often arrived with such a straight face that it took a moment to realize he was joking. Even in his final days, his sense of humor never left him.

Mike also enjoyed NASCAR, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the University of Arizona Wildcats Football and Basketball teams, admiring fast cars, reading thousands of books over the course of his life, and caring for his baby, a 2019 Honda Ridgeline, which everyone knew was to be admired but never touched. During Covid, Mike wrote a book about his life, where he shared stories and events that meant the most to him. It was published in hard cover, and he was happy to share it with anyone who would read it. He remained curious throughout his life, always reading and learning.

Above all else, Mike loved his family. He was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and nothing brought him more joy than watching his family grow with each new generation. His home was filled with photographs of the people he loved most, each one a reminder of a relationship he treasured. He took genuine interest in each person's life and built lasting relationships with every member of his family. More than anything, Mike wanted his family to know how much he loved them.

Mike is survived by his beloved second wife of 35 years, Carolyn; his children, Cynthia (Tim), Melynda, Mark (Joetta), VanNessa (Derek), and Sarah (Pete); his grandchildren, Kristin, Brooke, Michael (Rachel), Tyler (Sarah), Chloe (Matt), Lex, Quentin (Rhiannon), Elle, and Abbe (Elijah); his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Gabrielle, Wyatt, Mavrick, Alice, Rowan, Susie, Waylon, Heidi, Elaina, Alilia, and Clara (due in November); along with many extended family members, dear friends, neighbors, church family, and the countless people whose lives were brighter because they knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Sue; parents, Allen and Jeanette; his stepmother, Bert; and his brother, Gary.

Per Mike's wishes, a private family burial will be held at a later date in Des Moines, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church of Sahuarita or the Community Performing Arts Center in Green Valley, Arizona.

Mike's life was one of faithful service, quiet generosity, steadfast love, and joyful humor. His family finds comfort knowing that the man who spent a lifetime walking with the Lord is now in His presence.
