Mavis Elaine Anderson-Obituary Feb 27, 1942- December 21, 2015
The Universe lost one of it Cosmonauts- a passenger of life's wonders, an explorer, a photographer and lover of all things out of the norm. A Mother, a Grandmother, a sister, and a friend to all she's met. A Person who has never met a stranger and has been known to make friends with flowers, rocks and all creatures the Good Lord has set upon us- whether good or bad in their own unique ways.
She was a believer in good and being different, growing up in the heartland of America on a Wisconsin farm with 8 brothers and sisters- Glen, Janice, Carol, Norma, Sandra, Harlan, Corinne, and Duane. There she learned the laurels of hard work, faith, and an appreciation for all living and dying things. After graduation, she knew that her calling was to heal. She pursued her career in Nursing, first by attending the Swedish Nursing College in Minnesota , and then ventured off to San Francisco, Denver, Austin, and then back to her true love of California-residing in San Francisco- a place with as much character, heart, and caring- so similar to her eccentric personality. While in San Francisco, she was a student of compassion for those that did not have a voice, a mentor to those that suffered, and a care-giver to many fallen veterans, and lost souls. A veteran of her country herself, she always believed, and fought as a true American with the interests of freedom, equality, peace and prosperity for all.
Early on, she met and married her true love, Peter Creamer and had two boys, who love her and will miss her dearly. As a traveler, she ventured off to romantic places such as Paris, Italy, and Greece- where she will probably reside and explore for a long time to come. Her passion for caring allowed her to be an innovator, and pioneer of Holistic Home Healthcare, which was way ahead of its time in the early 1980's.
If there was a beaten path, she wouldn't take it. If there was a hill, she would conquer it. If there was someone in need, she would be there even if she didn't have the resources. If there was a garage sale, the brakes would screech until she found a "deal". She met numerous life-time friends, and let it be known that if she befriended you, you were a friend for life. In life and death, she was a strong hearted, strong willed person who believed what she believed, and didn't care if you didn't have the same views. She would debate, yet listen to all vantage points, and stand with her morals whether you liked them or not. She once told her son, while living in Guadalajara as an ex-pat, that he needed more culture in his life.. J
Mavis was a fighter until the end. She said FU to Cancer in the early 90's and won the battle, she combatted it again in the 2000's when the cancer reared its ugly head again, In the final year, she stood up to cancer until the she could stand no more. In the end it was cancer that won the war. Even though Mavis thought that Chemo was the devil, and much worse than cancer, she respected the many doctors who battled for her as a person, not just a customer. She asked us to personally thank all of those that stood by her side and comforted her in good times and bad during the most courageous, and grueling time of her life.
Mavis is preceded in death by her parents-John and Helen, her brothers, Duane and Glen, her dear animals Zoe, Gretchen, and Fritz, and the many flowers that she photographed along the way.
If you are reading this and have befriended Mavis in one way or another, take a second to remember her for the profound impact she may have had on you, or the quirky things she may have said or done. Go out and do something good for someone who may be in need, and reach out to a stranger to have a random conversation about the goodness of life. Give thanks in what you have. Always have the decency to give someone you don't know praise and don't expect anything in return- You never know who you may meet. Smile, be happy, meditate, breathe, and for god sakes, LOVE! Life is short, and to live it with regrets is unhealthy both physically and mentally. Now!- Go call your Mom and Tell her you love her.
Mavis leaves this physical world with peace, and a smile looking for the next great adventure that will take her to wonderful place which will lead her to new friends, and re-unite her with those she loved from the past. She is in a good place, so join us in celebrating her crazy, exciting, and anything but mundane life, as we all pay tribute to an amazing woman, sister, mother, and friend who affected so many. She is now happy, at peace, free of pain, and is surely smiling down on the idiosyncrasies of our whimsical lives while journeying amongst the stars.
The only way Mavis would like her memorial services to be held is with a Garage Sale. Tell Your friends that knew her to stop by on Saturday January 2nd, 2015 from 8 until 11a.m. at her house to share memories or find a treasure. We would like to see you then! Address is 471 Shadow Wood Street, Green Valley, AZ 85614
