Obituary

Mary Jane Vesel, beloved wife, mother, and Grandmother passed away at the age of 84 on January 5, 2024, in the arms of her loving husband at their winter home in Sahuarita, AZ. She was born on January 25, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Frederick William and Mary (Greeley) Meyer.

Mary Jane attended Aquinas Catholic Schools in La Crosse, WI, college at Marquette University and Viterbo University, earning a B.S. degree in Medical Technology in 1960.  She dedicated her life to her family and her career. Mary Jane's tenure as a Medical Technologist at St. Barnabas Hospital in Minneapolis, MN was cut short to be with those she loved - her family. Considering her fear of the sight of blood, this was a welcomed role change.

In her personal life, Mary Jane was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, John Joseph Vesel, with whom she shared 63 years of love and companionship. Together, they built a life grounded in love and shared values. Mary Jane was a nurturing mother to her children, Michael John, Susan Marie, and Daniel Edward (Barbara) Vesel. She embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood, providing unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love to her cherished children.

Mary Jane's family was the center of her world, and she found immense joy in her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Samuel brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Mary Jane took great pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent with them. She delighted in sharing stories and creating lasting memories with her beloved family.  When her children exclaimed "you don't love me anymore," her reply was "I don't love you any more, I love you just as much…but not as much as the grandkids."

Outside of her professional and familial responsibilities, Mary Jane cultivated a range of hobbies that brought her great pleasure. She possessed a creative spirit and found solace in arts and crafts, sewing, and the culinary arts. Mary Jane had a green thumb and took delight in nurturing her plants. She was also a talented musician, playing both the piano and accordion. Additionally, she was an avid sports enthusiast, passionately cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Mary Jane's infectious enthusiasm for her hobbies and interests are carried on by her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Although she was an only child, she considered her cousins and in-laws her family [Gretchen Leinum, Charlene Johnson, Lawrence (Judy) Vesel, James Vesel, and Mary (predeceased by William/Buddy) Vesel, and predeceased by parents in-law Mathew L. Vesel and Mary (Micketts) Vesel]. Mary Jane is additionally survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary Jane Vesel will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kind heart, warm spirit, and enduring love will forever be cherished. May her soul find eternal peace.

In honor of Mary Jane's life, a memorial service will be held at her hometown of Nashwauk, MN the latter part of this coming spring.  The details will be shared via the Vesel Facebook pages once finalized
