Marcia Ellen Owens died peacefully at home in Green Valley, Arizona on July 10, 2024.  She was born on June 14, 1931 in Lexington, Kentucky, an only child to Henry and Margery Hornsby.  She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Allen Owens and her son Stephen Hornsby Owens.  She is survived by her daughters Margery (Schofield), her husband Harold, Elizabeth Owens, Carole (Hughes), her husband Tony, Daughter in law Victoria (Hood) Owens, grandchildren Christopher Owens, his wife Samantha, Rachel Owens, her wife Kathryn, Amy (Schofield) Pfalzer, her husband Johnny, Kelly Schofield, Benjamin Hughes and great grandchildren Kailyn and Kyler Spahn, Amira Owens and Haleigh Pfalzer.

She attended Smith College and was a graduate of Kentucky University with a degree in English.  She typed text books in braille for the Northeastern Association of the Blind.  She was a choral director at the Methodist Church in Schenectady, NY. She was a member of the Thursday Musical Club and became the director of the Thursday Belles, an English handbell group comprised of the musical club members.

She was an expert bridge player, loved diagram-less crossword puzzles, logic problems and was an avid reader. She enjoyed knitting and her daughters are the recipients of many of her beautiful argyle sock creations.  One of her happiest times was spent volunteering in the collections department of the Schenectady Museum where she learned something new every day.  She loved to tell jokes and stories and said many times, if it's worth telling, it's worth exaggerating.  She also hated to cook and never wanted any gift related to the kitchen. She loved Mozart, Handel's Messiah, Netflix, peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce and Leonard Bernstein.  She had an artistic flare and loved the beauty of asymmetry.  She created crewel embroidery pieces and designed her own needlepoint patterns, presenting each member of the family with a pillow made with their favorite colors.  She passed the appreciation for music, artistry, reading and crafting to her children.  She was greatly loved and will live on in the hearts of the ones she left behind.
