In Loving Memory

Lucinda (Cindy) Garland passed away April 1st, 2024, with family by her side. She was born August 21st, 1953, to Kenneth Johansen and Ruth (Shriver) Johansen in Clay Center, KS. Cindy in her early years lived in Topeka, KS along with her mother, father, and siblings.

Cindy's father was a minister and followed the church wherever there was a need for the Lord's word. The list of her relocations lived in are Kansas, California, Texas, N Carolina, and Illinois. Settling in Topeka, KS where she met her husband, Cecil (Turk) Garland and on January 8th, 1981, they married.

Mrs. Garland was the mother of 2, grandmother of 5, and great grandmother of 6. Cindy loved children in her life and provided care for not only her children, but grandchildren and great grandchildren on many occasions and loved to host or participate in family events.

Cindy was a loving person who was always ready to help, no matter what. Among her family members are her two children, Valerie J, Beam of Topeka, KS, and Ryan M. Tatum of Manhattan, KS. Five grandchildren, Skylar J. Reed of Topeka, KS. Tanner B. Reed(predeceased) of Topeka, KS, Austin M. Tatum of Manhattan, KS, Steven T. Tatum of Manhattan, KS, Jadyn N. Myers of Topeka, KS and 6 great grandchildren Elisha Reed, Ilana Reed, Bria Reed, Apollo Reed, Kyden Jenkins, and Talen Reed.

Cindy accomplished many things in her lifetime, grade school, Jr. High, High school and ending up with a bachelor's degree from Washburn University of Topeka, KS. Cindy kept busy in her daily life and managed to juggle college, work, and home at the same time.

After retiring Cindy, her husband, Turk, and her beloved service dog, Showlo, embarked on an adventure, visiting National parks, RV parks, towns, and the fascinating sights of the U.S. as full time RVers. For Cindy it was a dream to do so, and the couple spent 11 years traveling the U.S.

Cremation will occur at Green Valley Mortuary, after which she will continue to travel with her husband until his passing. At that time the remains will be once more joined together 'as one' and scattered together.
