Mrs. Loella Speer, 90, of Green Valley, Arizona passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025.

Loella Smith was born on August 31, 1935 in Chicago to Mildred and Marvin Smith. Growing up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, she graduated from Glenbard High School in 1953 and from Michigan State University in 1957.

Loella met her husband, Lloyd Speer, at the Little Popcorn Store in Wheaton, Illinois. They married in 1958, and after Lloyd's graduation from the University of Illinois law school, moved back to Glen Ellyn where they raised three sons.

Loella was a devoted, loving wife, mother, daughter, and daughter-in-law. She led an active life of service including volunteering at the United Methodist Church, Central DuPage Hospital, Lloyd's law practice, and the many activities of her boys.

After her husband retired from his law practice, Loella and Lloyd moved to Green Valley, AZ where they joined the Country Club of Green Valley. Throughout the next twenty years, Loella was an invaluable member, tirelessly contributing to the club in a variety of ways.

Loella had a wide range of interests and abilities. She was an accomplished tennis player, competing in local tournaments. Loella was a skilled baker, supplying plates of Christmas cookies for friends and family, as well as creating wedding cakes. She knitted Christmas stockings and baby sweaters for family and friends. She was an avid sports fan, following Chicago, Michigan State, and University of Illinois sports teams.

Loella was known for her selfless giving, strength, listening skills, and caring attitude for all who came into her life.

Loella was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years.

Loella is survived by her three sons: Steve, Stan (Kathy), and Scott; her grandchildren Kevin, Kellie (Justin) Brown, Samantha, Matthew, and Shane; her great-grandchildren Harper and Payton Brown; her sister Judith Noren; and several nieces and nephews.

Loella will be buried in the family plot in Wheaton Cemetery, Wheaton IL, early next summer. A celebration of life will be held at the Country Club of Green Valley on Sunday, January 18, 2026 beginning at noon.
