Lawrence Arnold Dernbach, "Larry", long time resident of Green Valley, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at his La Posada residence surrounded by his five children.

Larry was born on October 3, 1930, in Lewistown, Montana to Lawrence and Florence Dernbach.  Larry was the eldest of seven children:  Sis/Madonna Smith, Snooks/Lillian Vance, Dan Dernbach, Steve Dernbach, Tim Dernbach and Jerry Dernbach, all of whom still reside in Montana.

Larry grew up in Wheaton, Illinois.  He moved back to Lewistown in his teens and graduated from St. Leo's High School in 1948.  Larry attended his first year of college at Gonzaga University, then enlisted in the Air Force and served stateside during the Korean War from January 1951 to October 1954.  While in the Air Force he was assigned to the team who worked on the B-47 Stratojet long-range strategic bomber, which core designs were eventually incorporated into the B-52 Stratofortress.  After completing his service, Larry graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Larry met his wife Lorraine at a New Year's Eve party in 1954 and they were married on November 5, 1955.  They had a long and blessed marriage and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November 2020.  Larry was rich in daughters and is survived by: Carol Dernbach (Meghan and Dylan Combs) of Clemmons NC; Joni Sanderson (John, Joseph, Jacob and Jillian) of Lone Tree CO; Lisa Brodin (Bob, Samuel and Becca) of Castle Rock, CO; and Donna Aponte (Carlos, Nico, Paulo and Santi) of Bunde, Netherlands and his favorite son, Vince Dernbach (Samantha, Michael and Anna) of Tulsa OK.

Larry worked in many different industries, but his career was mainly focused in the Oil and Gas Industry.  In the 1960's he worked on the Titan Missile ICBM guidance system for Martin Marietta, and eventually went to work for Schlumberger, and then RL Manning Drilling.  He was transferred multiple times, moving his family frequently from Montana to Wyoming and to Colorado. During the lean oil production years, he worked as a stockbroker.  Toward the end of his career, he co-owned Virg's Drill Stem Testing and ran the company for several years prior to retirement.

Larry enjoyed golfing, bridge and traveling with Lorraine in their 5th wheel around the country. They even made it to Alaska. Growing tired of the cold and snowy Colorado winters, after being snowbirds to Arizona, they decided to move to Green Valley permanently in the year 2000.

Larry lived a long and rich life surrounded by family and the friends he made over the years.  Larry's sense of humor, his stories and his ability to engage with others will be missed.  His caregivers would often remark, "Larry is our favorite", to which we can all agree.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Lawrence Dernbach, and his wife Lorraine.

Larry will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver Colorado in the summer of 2025.  Please help us to remember him joyfully and with fond memories of a life well lived.
