Kurt Streit passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the Northwest Medical Center in Sahuarita, AZ after a brief illness. He was 95 years old.
Kurt was born in Birchi Switzerland on November 30th 1926. He moved around Europe as a young man, ending up in England after World War II where he met his future wife, Hanna Ortmann. Kurt and Hanna moved to the remote town of Ocean Falls, Canada in 1956, where their only child, Lawrence, was born. In 1961 they moved to Portland, OR. Kurt started his career in the plywood industry, eventually becoming an owner/worker at Multnomah Plywood in St. Helens, OR. In 1998 Kurt and Hanna retired to Green Valley, AZ where they adapted to the desert life.
Kurt enjoyed living in the Pacific Northwest. He took pride in maintaining the landscaping around his house and tending to the fruits and vegetables in his garden. He particularly liked the Oregon Coast. Perhaps it was the contrast of growing up in the mountains of Switzerland. Even in retirement Kurt and Hanna would spend the summers by the ocean. Kurt's biggest passion throughout his life was baseball. He had never seen a game until he came to America, yet he became an avid San Francisco Giants fan. From the days of Willie May and Willie McCovey through their championships to the present. In Green Valley, Kurt and Hanna both enjoyed volunteering with several local organizations, including the Food Bank.
Kurt is survived by his son Lawrence and grandchildren Jeremy and Jason. He is preceded in death by his wife Hanna (Ortmann).
Kurt asked to be cremated and his ashes be scattered on the Oregon Coast.
