Obituary

Kathleen Ann Johanning (nee Haney)
January 16, 1945 – November 15, 2025

Kathleen Ann Johanning passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 16, 1945, in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the daughter of John Haney Sr. and Agnes (Collins) Haney and the cherished sister of John Haney Jr.

After graduating from Ryan High School, Kathleen moved to Kansas City, where she began her career as a reservationist for Braniff Airlines. It was there that she met the love of her life, Myrl, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.

Kathleen was a devoted mother to Jason (Julie) Johanning of Omaha, Nebraska and Kelley (Michael) Helfand of Coronado, California. She especially treasured her role as grandmother to Connor, Brendan, Molly, Lilly, Preston, and Griffin, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She was also a beloved cousin, sister-in-law, aunt, and godmother.

While raising her family in Shawnee, Kansas, Kathleen gave generously of her time and talents. She volunteered at St. Joseph Grade School and Catholic Church, Rockhurst High School, and Notre Dame de Sion High School, where she served as Mothers' Club President.

Following retirement, Kathleen and Myrl relocated to Sahuarita, Arizona, where she enjoyed the sunshine and the warm fellowship of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. She was also embraced by friends and neighbors in the Del Webb community.

Kathleen will be remembered as a woman of deep faith, unwavering generosity, and boundless love. She always put the happiness of her family above her own. She had a passion for travel, visiting most of the 50 states and many countries around the world. Of all the places to which she traveled, Hawaii was her favorite.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Sahuarita, Arizona. Lunch will be served following the service.
