Obituary

Joseph, known by "Caesar" or "Joe" by family and friends died on Friday, June 8 at his home in Green Valley, Arizona. Joe was born on 22 September 1934 in Santa Barbara, California to the late Josephine Alvarez and Edward Balles Pineda. At age 5, he moved with his family to National City, California, where he lived for the rest of his childhood.

Following high school, Joe enlisted in the US Air Force and served for 20 years, retiring from service in 1974 at the rank of Tech Sgt. His military career took him across the globe, serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

In 1953, he married Josephine Morales and together they had seven children. In 1967, he married Susan Helene Elizabeth Mayer in Aurora, Colorado, remaining married for 26 years and raising their two children until Susan succumbed to cancer in 1993. In 2002, Joe was married to Carol Ann Pavlik Bross, who shared his last 15 years with him. Joe and Carol have spent their golden years together in Green Valley, enjoying the peaceful and open country of the Arizona desert.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, second wife Susan and brother Edward Eugene. He is survived by his first wife Josephine and present wife Carol, his nine children, Joseph Jr. (Melani), Robert, Regina (Dwight), Teresa, Ronald (Karie), Thomas (Jeanne), Steven, Edward (Kimberly) and Alicia (Gregory), 18 grandchildren - Carmen, Jacob, Kelly, Blake, Garrett, Angela, Montgomery Rene, Desiree, Jordan, Matthew, Dakota, Derringer, Dylan, Darian, Alexis, Dominic, Quinten and Eloisa, and 11 great-grandchildren, Elliot, Dante, Ash Lee, Cora Josephine, Isabel, Emily, Amber, Nolan, Natalie, Benjamin and Cayden, nephews Michael Pineda and Steven "Tom" Pineda, 2 grandnephews Christian and Matthew and his devoted chihuahua, CoCo.

Internment will be held in Phoenix at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Family and friends will gather to remember him at a private event immediately following the committal service.
