On March 14, 2022, Harry James Lang of Green Valley, Arizona died peacefully and surrounded by family at the age of 80. The world will never be the same.

Harry was born on September 6, 1941, to Helen Newman Lang and Dudley J. Lang. He would reside in Mississippi as a young boy, and eventually move to Monrovia, in sunny California, when he was 9 years old.

Harry was born into quite a large family, with his mother, alone, being one of twelve! He had four siblings, and is survived by Alan Lang from Bonita Springs, Florida; Dudley Lang (Charlotte) from Pasadena, California; Katherine Gregus (Frank) from Rancho Cucamonga, California; and Nell Lang from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Speaking of siblings, it reminds us of the time Harry's mother would tie him and his brother, Dudley, each to a different tree, with a rope JUST long enough for them to play together, without actually touching, or scuffling, as it were.

He joined the US Army and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. We should be so lucky. He was most honorably discharged in 1963. On June 30, 1962, he would marry Gail Frances Handy and eventually move to Midway, Utah in 1971. They would go on to have three wonderful children; Steven Lang (Phyllis), Shelli Lang Ivie, and Kurt Lang (Corina). While he would eventually divorce, he had seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Harry spent his entire 59 year career in the electrical industry. In 1963, he went to work for Edison Power in Southern California as a draftsman. He didn't like being cooped up in an office, so he got an apprentice lineman position. He eventually moved up to foreman. After his move to Utah, he started working with Utah Power. Within a year, he would go on to start multiple electrical companies: Lang Electric co, Omega Power, American Power, Boot Hill Crane, Tucson Transformer & Apparatus. He would eventually end his prosperous career as a well-respected consultant for the electrical industry.

Eventually, Harry and his second wife, Elizabeth Ann Gessel, met in Salt Lake and moved to Arizona and got married on June 11,1996. His family would grow by two stepdaughters; Rebecca Engman and Kelly Morales (Gil) and another grandchild. This was where he would ultimately spend the rest of his life.

If you knew Harry, you knew he never did anything in a small way. Raising his children, he wouldn't send them to their room…he'd say, "Do you want to go sleep out in the barn with Sweetheart?" Sweetheart was the family pig. Instead of simply admiring planes, Harry would go on to get his pilot's license and even had his own Cessna airplane. He would always play the Lotto with the same set of numbers, and made his family promise to continue with his numbers, even after he was gone. That's a promise that will be kept. He also loved the occasional family bet on the World Series. When he won $100.00 on Houston's win against the Dodgers, he would eventually mail back his winnings to his niece, with a letter saying Houston cheated, and he didn't feel right about collecting on the series. That's a class act! In the same vein of going big, Harry would also own his very own Goldmine in Manhattan, Nevada.

His love for the outdoors was evident. He loved all types of fishing, be it in the ocean, lakes, or streams.  He loved fly fishing in the Snake River in Yellowstone. One of his favorite places to be was his cabin in Henry's Lake, Idaho. If you were lucky, you'd get an invite!

To respectfully sum up Harry's life, he was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, husband, uncle, and friend. With his love for wine, it would only be right that, wherever you are, you raise a glass to this wonderful man, our family member, Harry Lang. Hopefully, wherever he is, it's "wine-thirty" and he's toasting right along with you.

As per Harry's request, no funeral services will be held.  In true "Harry" fashion, he preferred a celebration of his life to be held at a later date…

and so it shall be, Harry.
