Elizabeth (Liz) Curtis Cohn passed away May 2, 2022, in Tucson, AZ, after an illness. Liz was born in Leroy (now known as Westfield Center), OH on August 2, 1937, to Charles Edgar and Martha Elizabeth Curtis. After growing up in Ohio, she enrolled at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where she graduated with a degree in political science in 1959. She joined Delta Gamma sorority, and she continued to be active after college, later serving as president of the Tucson Chapter. During her senior year, Liz participated in a program called Semester in Washington in Washington, D.C. After graduation, she did an internship with a United States Senator from Ohio. Liz and her family lived in Chicago where she became active in the community, served as president of the Women's Auxiliary and was a volunteer with the North Shore League of the Jewish Children's Bureau. In 1978, the family moved to Tucson.

A dedicated volunteer, Liz was involved with many charities in Tucson, and she served on the boards of most of them. She was involved with Angel Charity for Children for more than 30 years. In July 1999, Liz joined the Rotary Club of Tucson Sunrise where she remained an active member until her death. She served as club president in 2005-06 and she served many years as treasurer of the Tucson Sunrise Rotary Foundation. She held many offices in Rotary District 5500, which covers Southern Arizona. She served on the District Rotary Foundation Committee in 2006-07, and she became district secretary in 2011. She served as district administrator from 2014 until her death this year. She served as assistant governor 5 times, and she served multiple times as district registrar. She could be found at the check-in table for nearly every district event for more than 10 years. She attended six Rotary International Conventions, the first being in Singapore. At the Singapore convention, Liz discovered that Rotary was a perfect vehicle for her to help others, as she embraced Rotary's motto: Service Above Self. She was a Paul Harris Fellow, a designation named for Rotary's founder in recognition of a significant contribution to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She was designated Major Donor to the Foundation. Rotary District 5500 is establishing a new award recognizing exemplary service in her honor.

Apart from Rotary, Liz's interests included travel, especially cruises; being with family and friends, attending the theater, and playing with her dogs. She took thousands of photos on her travels, as well as photos of family, friends, and dogs.

Liz is survived by her sons, David and Robert Curtis; her daughter-in-law, Tana Curtis; her sister, Nancy Stocking; her grandchildren, Ashley Cross and her husband, Shane; Erin, Allison, and Charlie Curtis; great grandson Tucker Cross; nephews David (Jan) and Rick (Denny Peck) O'Malley; and her dog, Peaches.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. June 12 at the Sheraton Tucson, 5151 E Grant Road. Donations in Liz's memory may be made to the Tucson Sunrise Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 64756, Tucson, AZ  85728-4768. Donations will support a scholarship in her name.
