Donald "Don" Frederick Stuehler died peacefully surrounded by his family on February 2, 2017 at La Posada, La Via Memory Care in Green Valley.  Don was first and foremost a gentleman.  Those fortunate enough to have known him and to have exchanged a few stories and a hearty laugh, and maybe even raised a glass or two, knew they were in the company of greatness... even though he may have been disguised as an ordinary man.  Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 29, 1926 to Frederick and Julia Stuehler, little brother to June (Stuehler) Powers and a hardworking son of German immigrants from the North Side of Chicago.  He graduated from high school and promptly enlisted in the United States Navy.  Don's time serving the United States was a highlight of his life.  A proud member of the Seabees "Construction Battalion", Don spoke fondly of his years overseas.  After World War II, he returned home to meet the love of his life, Joan.  They married on May 2, 1953 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Skokie, IL and grew their family threefold with their four children, Laura, Cindy, Amy & Todd.  Don was immensely proud of his family. He worked at Illinois Bell Telephone until he retired in 1983.  During his time there he was President of IBT Pioneers which was very active in community kindness. After retirement he and Joan traveled around the world and decided to retire in Green Valley, Arizona to live out their long fruitful lives.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Frederick & Julia (Johansen) Stuehler, loving wife Joan, dear sister June (Stuehler) Powers and great-grand daughter Zia Dean.

He will be profoundly missed by his children Laura Severin, Cindy (Ken) Kroupa, Amy Dean and Todd Stuehler (Dawn Bryant), loving Grampa to Courtney (John) Witt, Lindsay (Nathan) Gallagher, Nicholas Dean, Kylie Dean (Eric Morris),  Cassandra (Jason) Thurman, Jessica (Spencer) Coupar, Andrew (Taylor) Stuehler, Ashley (Mark) Hodur and Caitlin Kroupa and nine great-grandchildren. We are all better to have had him in our lives.

A special thank you to the staff at La Posada and Agape Hospice on guiding our patriarch on his path to heaven. An Intimate family service will be held at a later date.
