Don was born in Akron, Iowa, on Nov. 4, 1929, to Steve and Ella Gant. He attended school in Akron and married his high school sweetheart, Sally Amundson, in 1948. The Gants' first home was on a farm outside of Akron. In 1952, when Don began to work for Investor's Diversified Services (IDS), the family moved to Beresford, S.D. Don was promoted to district manager with IDS, so the family moved to Algona, Iowa, in 1962 and when he was promoted to divisional manager in 1966 they settled in Madison, Wis. After retirement, Don and Sally made several trips to Green Valley, Ariz., in their motor home and fell in love with this desert community so made it their permanent residence in 1991. Don loved getting to know people and could easily start up a conversation with anyone close by. He loved to tell jokes as well as interesting stories of his many life adventures. He had strong leadership skills and was well known for the phrase, "Attitude is more important than ability". He put these qualities to good use contributing to his community as a member of Knights of Columbus, Lion's Club, and the Elk's. Donald and Sally enjoyed golfing, playing cards and many activities at the Green Valley Country Club. Their social life was soon filled with wonderful people who became their lifelong friends. This community has brought so much happiness to Don and Sally, the family wishes to thank all who have touched their lives. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Gant; their five children, Linda Ada, Terry Gant (Sue), Galen Gant, Donna Gant McGrath, and Steve Gant (Kim); as well as eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Jerry Gant and Chuck Gant; and sister, Carol Gant Baldes (Al). He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Gant; his mother, Ella (Lamoureux) Gant; his sister, Mary Ellen Gant; infant brother, James Milton Gant; grandson, Joseph "Corey" Ada; son-in-law, Terrence McGrath; and sister-in-law, Arlys (Amundson) Gant.
