David Griffiths Lash passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 10, 2023, in Green Valley, Arizona. He was 87 years old.

David is survived by his beloved long-time partner Meriel Gooding, of Green Valley, Arizona. Meriel's sweet nickname for David was "Dafydd," pronounced "Dahth," the Welsh name for David. David and Meriel met through a humanist group in Salida, Colorado, where they lived for many years prior to their move to Green Valley. Together, they enjoyed their dog Katie, and cats Tripp, Blink, and Domino.

David is also survived by daughter Beth Lash and son-in-law Gary Cooper of Annapolis, Maryland; son Michael and daughter-in-law Dianne of Annapolis; son Jason and partner Laura Smith of Baltimore; and grandsons Evan and Sean Cooper, and Nathaniel and Conner Lash. David was especially proud of his contributions to his grandchildren's education. When David passed, he was still mourning the recent loss of his dear brother, Gene.

David enjoyed an early retirement in Annapolis, Maryland, after a career as a computer analyst for Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute. Prior to that, he taught college math. David held a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Science from the University of Kansas, both in Mathematics.

David was especially proud of his grandfather and namesake, David Griffiths, and his accomplishments as a botanist and agronomist. David's pastimes included listening to jazz, telemark skiing, sailing, quoting limericks and musical humor, and playing solitaire. He dearly loved Colorado's Rocky Mountains, and the Chesapeake Bay. He loved computers and the Linux operating system.

Anyone who knew him knew David insisted his fries be hot, and his egg yolks runny. And most would recognize his frequent sayings: "Proceed as the way opens," "One never knows, do one," and "Balderdash!" His response to the question "How do you feel?" was always "With my hands."

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to his favorite charities, the Nature Conservancy or Doctors Without Borders.
