David Ten Eyck Appleton died on September 17, 2023.

David was a native of Santa Fe, New Mexico and he attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He began his technical career at the early age of 12 by fixing radios and working in several radio shops.

David married Geraldine "Gerry" M. Booker in 1952. They raised two wonderful children, Carolyn M. Appleton of Austin, Texas and Katharine Ann Appleton Cole of Hopland, California.

His first job out of college was with the Westinghouse Field Engineering and Service Department in Baltimore, Maryland. David became a fire control representative to the United States Navy. He then became the West Coast Manager of Field Engineering and then New Business Manager at the Baltimore headquarters.

In 1962, David joined the Space Technology Laboratory of TRW. His work included support for the Minuteman ICBM program, or the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Program. TRW became part of Northrup Grumman in 2002.

In 1967, David joined the NASA Apollo Program Office for mission planning in Houston, Texas. He was the project support team Manager for onboard data on Apollo 8 (Borman, Lovell, and Anders); project support team Manager for the Apollo Program Plan (all missions); project support team Manager, Post-Apollo Programs including the Space Shuttle, Space Station, Lunar Base, and Manned Mars Mission. He also served as operations level new Business Manager.

In 1991, he retired and moved to Green Valley, Arizona. David was a volunteer for the Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers of Green Valley (serving as President); he volunteered with the Green Valley Community Foundation (serving as President and holding several other leadership positions); and as an Elder of Valley Presbyterian Church (where he also oversaw many property improvements and where he was a member of the choir for twenty years). David also served for many years on the Green Valley Fire District Board of Directors, serving as a member and as Chairman.

In 2010, David learned he was related to one of the most famous spies in the American Revolutionary War, John Honeyman, who was responsible for the success of the Crossing of the Delaware.
