Obituary


It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David E. Dennis, beloved husband and father.  Dr. Dennis, 68, formally of Hampton, IA passed away in Green Valley, AZ on Saturday September 29th, 2018 after a short battle with cancer.

David was born in Logan, UT on October 7th, 1949 to Wilma and Wallace Dennis.  He grew up in Denison, IA and after high school graduation he attended Drake University College of Pharmacy in Des Moines, IA.  Upon graduating in 1972, he continued his education receiving his Doctor of Osteopathy from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1975.  David accepted a job in Hampton, IA in July of 1976 after completing his one year internship at Des Moines General Hospital. David dedicated his entire 38 year career to this same practice.

David met his wife Patti on a blind date on June 13th 1966.  They were married on August 8th, 1970 in Des Moines, IA.  This marriage was blessed with four children.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Dennis served on the Board of Directors for First National Bank, he was the Medical Director of local nursing home facilities, and contributed to the development of Hampton's first Hospice program.

To us, his family, David's legacy lies in the example he lived for us each day.  First and foremost was his love for his family.  This family included not only his wife and children, but his patients, friends, his children's friends...all who entered our home.

Professionally, Dr. D truly believed in the mission of a family doctor.  He cared for people from birth and watched them grow to have their own families.  He took time to listen and understand his patients needs, hopes and fears.  Caring for the whole person was his goal.

David will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Patti and his children, Tina (Matt), Kelli (Jeff), Kyle (Cassandra), Kevin (Jennifer).  His grandchildren Sam, Ethan, Kerra, Lauren, Caleb, Will, Alex, Gavin and Tenley will miss their Papa.  he is survived by his siblings Wayne (Lorie), Brent (Chris), Annette, and Jean (Don), and nieces and nephews.  David was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Marty.

Memorials may be sent to First Bank Hampton, 211 1st Ave. NW Hampton, IA 50441.  These donations will be sent to Project Night Night, which provides children with a blanket, book and bag upon arrival at a shelter.  Or to honor his love of learning through reading, a literacy charity of your choice.
