Carmen Ortiz Burruel, 99 years young, of Sahuarita, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Armando R. Burruel; her children, Daniel Burruel, Carlos Burruel, and Carmen Orozco; her son-in-law, Ismael “Smiley” Valle; and her grandchildren, Armando Burruel III, Andrea Burruel, Adelina Granillo, and Elizabeth Burruel.
She is survived by her children, Terri (Gary) Rosenberg, Armando (Lora) Burruel, George (Sheila) Burruel, Laura Burruel, and Marie Valle, as well as the many grandchildren and generations of family who were blessed to call her Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma.
Carmen was the proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Her large and loving family was an important part of her life and her greatest legacy.
Carmen was a longtime resident of Sahuarita, Arizona, where she and her husband moved in 1975. Together, they worked for many years at Santa Rita Ranch, where they both eventually retired.
Carmen will be remembered for her sweet and gentle demeanor, her kindness, and her deep faith. She was a woman of great faith whose quiet strength and loving presence touched the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Green Valley Cemetery.
Carmen’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at La Posada for the wonderful, compassionate, and loving care they provided to our Mom. We are deeply grateful for the kindness, dignity, and comfort shown to her and to our family during her time in their care.
Carmen’s beautiful life of 99 years leaves behind generations of family, countless memories, and a legacy of faith and love that will continue to live on through all who loved her.
