C. Robert "Bob" Doyle

C. Robert “Bob” Doyle, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 5, 1938, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Charles Vernon and Mary Imogene Doyle.

Bob grew up in a farming community and attended a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Trinity High School in Bloomington in 1956. He attended St. Ambrose College and later spent six years at Maryknoll Seminary, an experience that profoundly influenced his faith and lifelong commitment to service. He earned his teaching certificate from Illinois State University and taught mathematics before beginning a career in the emerging computer industry.

In December 1964, Bob met Maureen Carmel, née Hallinan, beginning a loving partnership that lasted 61 years. Bob and Maureen made their home in Wheaton, Illinois, for 47 years, where they raised their children, Michael and Colleen, and built a life centered on family, faith, friendship and love.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He especially treasured his grandchildren, Benjamin and Emma Doyle. In retirement, Bob and Maureen enjoyed traveling, hiking, visiting museums and the Morton Arboretum, spending time at New Buffalo Beach and in Florida, and making memories with their grandchildren.

Known for his generosity, creativity, computer skills, handyman abilities, and talent as a master gardener, Bob had a special compassion for those in need. He volunteered for many years at St. Patrick’s Residence for the Aged and Infirm, served on the board of the ESSE Adult Day Services Center, and remained actively involved with Maryknoll affiliates, including serving one term on the Maryknoll board.

After moving to Arizona, Bob continued his commitment to service, volunteering with immigrants sheltering across the border in Sonoran Nogales, Mexico, and with a Samaritan group in Green Valley.

Bob is survived by his wife, Maureen; son Michael and his wife, Beth Knowles; daughter Colleen; grandchildren Benjamin and Emma; brother Daniel Doyle and his wife Jennifer; sister Mary Ellen Busby, niece Rebbeca Dyer; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Doyle.

Services: Visitation will be 4–8 p.m. Friday, September 4, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville. Viewing begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 5, followed by services at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, September 7, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 24044 East 1600 N Road, Cooksville, Illinois.
