Barbara Lee
(Richards) Powers
Dec 14, 1944 — Jun 21, 2026
Barbara Lee (Richards) Powers, 81, of Green Valley, AZ (formerly of East Lansing, MI), died on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Born on December 14, 1944 to Frances and Robert Richards, and raised in East Lansing, Barb was a 1963 graduate of East Lansing High School, and was the first of three generations to graduate from ELHS. Following her graduation from the Michigan State University College of Education, she married David Powers on August 31, 1968. Barb and Dave raised two children, Julie and Jeff. Throughout her life, Barb never met a stranger and loved helping people, whether it was as an educator, assisting countless brides at Jacobson's, or as a volunteer docent at the Michigan Historical Museum. Barb was a longtime friend of Bill W. and changed the lives of hundreds through that relationship.
Barb is survived by her husband, Dave Powers; her children, Julie Powers and Jeff (Kate) Powers; and grandson, Joe Powers. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen (Charlie) MacInnis; brothers-in-law, F.B. "Tom" Plasman; Tom Powers, and Mike Powers. Barb was a beloved aunt to Amy (John) Stomper, Beth Prince, Scott (Jessica Rodriguez) MacInnis, Rob (Kristyn) MacInnis, Liz (John) Aurelia, Moira Braganini, and Maureen Powers. She was "GrandBarb" to Tom (Ariana) Stomper, Andy (Anna) Stomper, Hannah (TJ) Eichelaub, Susie (Dallas) Oliver, Brady MacInnis, June MacInnis, Vincent Aurelia, Carmen Aurelia and Louie Aurelia, and "GreatGrandBarb" to Henry Eichenlaub and Emily (Emma) Oliver.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Susan Plasman, her in-laws, Frances and Michael "Ed" Powers, and her sister-in-law, Teri Powers.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice, especially those that help women and children in need.
