Obituary

Barbara was born in La Jolla, California in 1960.  She died too young, at 63, of complications from sepsis, on November 16, 2023, while living in Green Valley AZ

Barbara grew up in Edmonds WA, graduated from Edmonds High School.  She completed her BA at Seattle Pacific University, majoring in Communications and Art.  She lived in Western Washington, Portland and Sisters Oregon, Prescott Arizona and had moved to Green Valley Arizona.  She loved mountains and trees all her life.

As a travel agent Barbara traveled all over the world enjoying new and exciting locations wherever she went from Canada to the Amazon and Chilian mountains, from Europe to the Middle East and Asia.  She liked to share her love of travel with her clients, encouraging them to see and try new places. She was also always helpful when her clients ran into concerns while traveling, spending whatever time needed to work things out.

She was a great cat lover and always had at least two.  The cats she had when she passed, Oliver and Pi,  are now being loved and cared for by her sister.  She always adopted from local rescue agencies and would support the organizations in their efforts to help cats find their forever homes.

She was a great lover of art both as an appreciator and an artist herself.  She worked in oils, clay, and, most recently, in ceramics.  She also supported the arts as a volunteer and was on the Board of the Edmonds Arts Festival for several years.

Barbara loved to garden and always wanted trees and plants around her.  She wanted to have a soothing, comforting outside environment and lots of inside plants wherever she lived.  She liked to have casual gatherings to share her home and garden area with others.

Christmas was her favorite holiday.  She spent many hours decorating every room of her home as well as the garden.  She would have a couple of big Christmas trees, multiple artistic smaller Christmas trees and various Santas everywhere.  And, always lots of lights inside and out.

She liked being surrounded by beautiful things and sharing that beauty with others.

Barbara was a much-loved sister, aunt, friend, and travel agent.

Barbara is survived by sisters Susan Allen Southwick (Gary) and Mary K Allen, niece Stephanie Southwick Smith (Doug), grandnephew Graham Smith and grandniece Kate Smith.

There will be a 12th Day of Christmas Open House to celebrate her life at 3:00pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024. If you are unable to attend, cards and any stories of your remembrance of Barbara would be appreciated.  Please email bermuda1960@live.com for the address to attend or to share a remembrance.

Please do not send flowers.  If you would like, please donate in Barbara's memory to: Paws Patrol Green Valley https://www.greenvalleypawspatrol.org/ or your local cat rescue and adoption organization.  She would have loved to know that there are cats being cared for from your gift.

To send flowers or plant a memorial tree in memory, please visit our flower store.
