Amy Leona Lacey Young of Green Valley, AZ, age 81, slipped peacefully into the arms of her waiting Savior on Monday, September 12, 2016.
Amy was born on November 9, 1934 in Stafford Springs, CT. to Albert and Dora Lacey. Growing up, Amy was a member of 1st Baptist Church in East Longmeadow, MA. Amy began her personal relationship with Jesus Christ in 1943. Amy graduated from Technical High School in 1953 and was employed by New England Telegraph and Telephone Company.
Amy met John Ross Young in 1954 on a blind date and they were married on November 26, 1955. John and Amy moved all over the US including the states of Utah, California, Nebraska, Connecticut, and Georgia before retiring in 1993 to Green Valley, AZ.
In earlier years, Amy drove school bus and later taught and volunteered in Christian schools. In retirement, Amy proudly assisted John in the restoration of corvairs and was an active member of the Tucson Corvair Club, the Green Valley Genealogy Society as well as Women's Connection; formally known as Christian's Women's Club. Amy and John volunteered for years, weekly, with New Tribes Mission in McNeal, AZ.
Amy's faith never wavered; she loved and served her Lord as a faithful servant. She was most recently a member of Faith Community Church in Tucson, AZ.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents; Albert and Dora Lacey, two brothers, Earl and Frank Lacey as well as her sister, Ethel Lacey Martin.
Amy is survived and will be sorely missed by her loving husband, John Ross Young, Jr., daughters Bonnie Young Ahlgrim and husband Timothy (Lafayette, IN), Linda Ann Young (Cumming, GA), Sandra Young Hewitt and husband Calvin (Danbury, CT). Amy leaves behind 5 cherished grandchildren; Benjamin Ahlgrim (Columbia, PA), Allison Ahlgrim Davie and husband Ian (Phoenix, AZ), Christian Hewitt, Rachel Hewitt and Jared Hewitt (Danbury, CT). Amy enjoyed the pleasure of welcoming to the family one great grandchild; Jaxon Ahlgrim (Columbia, PA). Amy leaves behind her two beloved sisters: Ruth Lacey Brooks of Athol, MA, Jean Lacey of East Longmeadow, MA. and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00a.m. at Faith Community Church 2531 West Orange Grove Road Tucson, AZ. 85741. There will be a private family internment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Amy's memory can be made to Institute for Better Education www.IBEscholarships.org . Please designate Faith Community Academy.
